On Twilight-author Stephenie Meyer’s website she has a picture posted of the dress she used as inspiration in describing Bella’s prom dress in the first novel of the series. The dress is by designer Emanuel Ungaro and was featured during Paris Fashion Week in 2003. It’s a very feminine light yellow/off-white dress with soft blue and purple floral patterned fabric that is gathered at around the hip. The off-the-shoulder sleeves flare at the cuff line, which creates a really romantic and princessy look. It’s a bit renaissance-inspired, and really beautiful in my opinion.
It’s obviously different from the dress that Bella wears in the Twilight movie–a blue halter dress with a knee-length tiered skirt. This dress makes a bit more sense in terms of the context of the story and is more likely a dress that Bella would choose to wear. Which one do you think is the better Bella prom dress?
